Get your fancy hats and seersucker ready, because the 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby is this week. To celebrate, we head over to Lower East Side newcomer, Clancey, for their special Church-Chill Downs cocktail. Owner, Dennis Bogart says of the drink, “The Kentucky Derby wouldn’t be complete without the mint julep and since our Frozen Moscow Mule has been so popular, we wondered what it would be like to throw the classic cocktail in the blender. Thus the Church-Chill Downs frozen mint julep was born.”
This frozen take on a classic Mint Julep will be served on Derby Day for just $7, so you’ll have plenty of money left to place your bets in hopes of a trifecta.
Church-Chill Downs Recipe
- 3 oz. Old Forester Bourbon
- 1-1/2 tsp. house made simple syrup
- 1-1/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
- 8 fresh mint leaves
- 3/4 cup crushed ice
- 1 sprig of mint for garnish
