Destilería Serrallés Pledges $1 Million to Puerto Rico Earthquake Relief Aid

When disasters strike, the bar industry are some of the first to step up to the plate to provide aid to communities in need.  In the wake of Puerto Rico’s devastating earthquakes, Destilería Serrallés, producers of Don Q Rum, will contribute $1 million to relief efforts on the island. Located in Ponce, Destilería Serrallés is close to the epicenter and regions most affected by the earthquakes. The company’s “Somos Millones de Quijotes” relief brigades will visit nearby affected areas to provide immediate disaster relief and essential services to families and communities impacted by the earthquakes and tremors that continue to plague Puerto Rico.

The company also announced the opening of two collection centers at the Destilería Serrallés facilities in Mercedita and Guaynabo to facilitate volunteer donations from individual citizens, company employees and collaborators for primary needs and first aid articles as well as non-perishable foods. The donation centers will begin operating on January 13, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily, Monday-Friday.

“We stand in solidarity with our communities in Ponce and the Southwest region as they confront this tragic and unprecedented disaster,” stated Philippe Brechot, President and CEO of Destilería Serrallés. “The entire team at Destilería Serrallés is committed to providing a helping hand and we are confident that this contribution will help alleviate some of the suffering while providing immediate supplies and direct services to assist our local communities in need.”

The company is currently identifying local non-profit organizations to collaborate with expeditiously, defining services to be provided and the specific communities to assist in Ponce and surrounding municipalities. The main priority is ensuring the funds provide direct aid to needy communities with utmost efficiency and transparency.
