All The Must-Drink Cocktails at EMP Summer House

 In Features

It’s time to start making plans for the Hamptons, and every list should include a stop at EMP Summer House. Now in its second year in East Hampton, this pop-up restaurant is a collaboration between the team at the famed Eleven Madison Park – which was named the World’s Best Restaurant in 2017 – and American Express, and will no doubt be the hot spot of the season.

A casual sibling to the NYC location of Eleven Madison Park, EMP Summer House features an a la carte menu offering everything from lobster to pasta and a ribeye for two, an indoor dining room and a laidback backyard complete with picnic tables where guests can nosh on a variety of flatbreads, lobster rolls and the Humm dog.

But we are here for the drinks, crafted by mixology master Leo Robitschek (He is also the Bar Director at Eleven Madison Park, NoMad and NoMad Bar). The Detox-Retox – with Diplomatico Rum, Chivas 12 Year, Plantation Pineapple Rum, Avua Amburana, Coconut Water – was a big hit last summer and is back again.

But Robitschek has concocted some new ones for this summer season including the Sherry Painkiller with Amontillado sherry, Ron Zacapa 23, coconut, pineapple and orange, the gin-based Montauk and the Summer of Hell Yes featuring St Germain, No Mader Weisse beer,  pickled watermelon, lemon, jalapeño and cucumber which is sure to become an instant favorite.

“Our cocktail list is inspired by summer in The Hamptons,” explains Robitschek noting that the menu is broken up into three separate sections: Classics, Sunrise and Sunset.  “The Sunrise section is comprised of cocktails that you would like to drink outside while on a long weekend,” Robitschek continues. “These cocktails tend to be lighter in spirit and body, while the Sunset section tends to be slightly richer and more warming, but still representative of a summer night. We are also using local ingredients found in our surrounding areas like strawberries, red peppers and watermelon.”
