H&H Brazilian Steakhouse Brings Southern Brazilian Flair To DTLA

Downtown Los Angeles just got a whole lot meatier. H&H Brazilian Steakhouse offers a taste of Southern Brazil featuring all-you-can-eat tableside, grass-fed premium meats and traditional Brazilian cocktails.

The design of H&H is a modern spin on the traditional Southern Brazilian steakhouse, with a bright, airy main room, a sophisticated private room with a full-wall light installation, and a cozy-casual fireplace room in the back. In the main room, a painting of a Gaucho takes center stage. The piece is by the owner’s mother, Helen Rejane Hoeppel Huyer, who has been painting for 35 years in Brazil. Designed by Ephrat Timor of E. Timor Designs, H&H incorporates a mix of mid-century modern elements with a little bit of country.

Comfortable and eclectic chairs invite diners to relax and stay awhile and eat as much as they’d like, while carefully considered details throughout the space elevate the ambiance. Beautiful mirrors above the bar form the initial ‘H’ for the restaurant’s namesake, founder Henrique Huyer. A bronze mirror in the entryway above a cow-patterned couch creates the perfect spot for guests to take photos, commemorating a special evening out.

An impressive wine cellar divides the main room and the private room, putting the extensive selection on display. A curtain wall in the back of the restaurant adds to the interest, drama and curiosity, as does the eclectic mix of lighting fixtures that distinguish one room from another. The design is an expression of the rich, diverse Brazilian culture, creating a unique and harmonious space by embracing differences in a sophisticated and stylish way.

The menu at H&H features popular, all-you-can-eat Brazilian Churrasco, which includes a variety of tender, perfectly cooked meats, such as picanha, fraldinha, garlic picanha, filet mignon, ribeye, beef ribs, leg of lamb, lamb chops, galeto al primo canto, linguica, pork ribs and chicken breast. The Gaucho chefs bring everything to the table and continue to bring more until you turn the tableside coaster from green to red, signaling that you’re full. As is the tradition in Brazil, all of the meats are barbecued with rock sea salt, which brings the unique flavor of each different cut to the surface. Also essential to the Southern Brazilian steakhouse experience is the organic salad bar.

“We wanted to bring a hassle-free, healthy dining option to DTLA, but with a refined atmosphere,” says Huyer. “It was important to me to offer a true taste of Southern Brazil, which means everything has to be the best quality and, of course, organic. The restaurant is also purposefully designed to be comfortable, so guests will linger, enjoy, and eat to their heart’s content, just like we do at steakhouses in Brazil.”

H&H also just launched a lunch menu including many new a la carte small items like Picadinho Bagual, a mix of grass-fed beef and pork sausage, Pastel de Queijo, Brazilian style cheese empanada, tomato and oregano, Pastel de Carne, Brazilian style empanada with grass-fed beef, garlic and onions, and Coxina de Galinha, delicious chicken croquettes that have been shaped into a drumstick. Unique lunch salads include the Kale Caesar, Brazilian Chopped Salad made with hearts of palm and Arugula Quinoa Salad.

Those of us looking to imbibe can choose from several non-traditional iterations of the Brazilian cocktail, Caipirinha, with flavors such as original, strawberry, coconut, rainbow and an orange-infused version called California Caipirinha. The bar also serves up Brazilian twists on classics such as the H&H GT made with Brazilian Wine, gin and tonic with a cinnamon stick, The Brazilian Paloma made with agave wine, grapefruit juice and passion fruit puree and Dr. H’s Citrus Sangria in which Dr. Henrique prescribes his elixir for all of life’s necessities.

Additionally, H&H also serves beer on draft and a thoughtfully curated 85% organic wine menu with selections from Chile, Argentina and Brazil. On “Wine Not Mondays” guests enjoy 1/2 price bottles of wine all day.

Happy hour is served Monday through Friday from 5 p.m to 7 p.m. and features Brazilian bites, Caipirinha cocktails, beer and wine by the glass.
