On the Rocks: The West Coast’s Best Aprés Ski

It’s officially après season and to celebrate, we’ve rounded up some of the newest, most delicious ways to cap off a day on the slopes. From champagne powder to champagne toasts, check-out the top après-ski activities this season from Vail, Colorado to Park City, Utah to the snowy Sierras.

Après Vail

The Town of Vail in Colorado, known for its world-class skiing and après, is welcoming a new tradition to celebrate its European Heritage: Apres Ski Bell Ringing. At precisely 3 p.m. every day throughout the ski season, businesses, shops and hotels around Vail Village, Lionshead Village and Vail Mountain will participate in bell ringing to signify the start of après-ski.

Several restaurants, hotels and bars will offer corresponding après menus including Vail Marriott Mountain View patio, where visitors can enjoy après-ski on the recently renovated igloo style. Stay cozy after a day on the slopes in decorated and heated igloo’s that seat up to 6-8 people and features delicious après bites and drinks. Guests can enjoy stargazing in the Rocky Mountains with fabulous mountain views and a lovely libation in hand for the perfect end to an epic ski day.

Visitors can also head into The Lodge at Vail, a RockResort after a day on the slopes to enjoy a revamped après drink menu served fireside. Warm up with a Pumpkin Toddy, complete with Jim Bean Bourbon, creamy pumpkin liqueur, maple syrup, and topped with cinnamon and lemon or sip fireside with a Grand Chocolate consisting of house-made hot cocoa, Grand Marnier, whipped cream, orange zest, and delicious dark chocolate-dipped orange. Kids can join in on the après fun as well with a selection of three different spectacular hot chocolates: stroopwafel, s’more and caramel corn.

Nestled against the base of Vail Mountain, The Arrabelle at Vail Square, A RockResort offers an aprés hot cocoa cart that surprises and delights guests after a long day of skiing when it arrives at their room complete with a spread of delicious trimmings including marshmallows, peppermint, milk chocolate, cookie crumbles and more.

Après Tahoe

In The Village at Northstar California Resort, celebrated Chef Mina has recently debuted an elevated après-ski hot spot, Bourbon Club. Here, guests can enjoy an extensive aprés menu complete with fireside sippers, pub-inspired food, and an impressive selection of beers and wine.

Cap off a day in the snowy Sierra Range at The Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe with a unique take on tequila with the property’s signature Hazelnut Mexican Coffee. Spiked with Patron Reposado, Frangelico and  Kahlua – the mixture of coffee and Mexican cocoa warms up the cool mountain evenings.

Aprés Park City

The snow is falling and the lights are sparkling around Park City, Utah as Sundance brings the stars and eyes of the world on this small Rocky Mountain town. Aprés Breckenridge

The new tech-forward ski-in/ski-out Gravity Haus, opening December 2019 will debut Breckenridge’s newest apres destination, Cabin Juice. Offering both a daily Aprés-Ski menu from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and fun Aprés Aprés from 10 p.m.to close with a cocktail menu inspired by the high alpine environment and local ingredients. Gravity Haus’ cocktails range from barrel-aged old fashions to carefully crafted sours and bubbly patio sippers.

Aprés isn’t just for adults! Every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday in Breckenridge, kids can enjoy One Ski Hill Place, A RockResort’s complimentary S’mores cart during après  3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and build your own Hot Cocoa Bar. While kids are roasting marshmallows and crafting their gooey S’mores adults can order specially curated drinks and snacks off the aprés menu from the Living Room.
