Oscar-Inspired Cocktails to Sip in LA and NYC

And the Oscar goes to….

Well, we will have to wait til Feb. 9 to see which films walk away with gold statues at the 2020 Academy Awards, but you can start celebrating the year’s best in cinema with a Hollywood-approved cocktail. Check out where you can enjoy Oscar-inspired cocktails in Los Angeles and New York.

Ever Bar, Los Angeles

The Joker

Ever Bar at The Kimpton Everly Hotel is getting into the award season spirit with their annual specialized Oscars cocktail menu, spearheaded by their innovative bar team. Each of the nine best picture nominees has a special curated concoction. The “1917” cocktail celebrates the beauty of the cherry blossom, just like when English soldiers take a moment to reminisce about simpler times at home while being in the throes of war. The drink is a clarified cherry milk punch with house made cherry cordial, Bulldog Gin- which embodies the heart of our soldier and Remy Martin Tercet Cognac- paying homage to the French countryside. The “Little Women” cocktail flight celebrates the March sisters: Meg with a Paper Plane, Jo with a Manhattan, Beth with a Blood & Sand and Amy with a French Aperitif. Serving you the 19th century Christmas breakfast feast straight from Marmee’s table, each with an infused High West whiskey base and served with a set of old fashioned keys.

For the bittersweet “Marriage Story,” drink, the bar played on the juxtaposition of New York City verses Los Angeles and the crumbling of what two people held dear. For Charlie, a NY coffee infused ice sphere, with apple bitters and saline. For Nicole, an L.A. inspired Siete Leguas white Negroni, sparkling like a glass of champagne. The “Ford Vs. Ferrari” drink, which celebrates Italy and the US in the 1966 24 hours Le Mans race uses Ford’s Gin “Ferrari” with Campari and Fernet, served alongside a truly American Miller High Life. The cocktail inspired by “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” is a margarita variation that captures the energy of Los Angeles in the 1960s: the music, the cinema, the stars and of course, El Coyote. It’s made with Yuzu, Milagro Tequila, St. George “Breaking and Entering” Whiskey and pineapple.

“The Irishman” cocktail is painted with Powers Irish Whiskey, Bruto Americano and a house made blood orange cordial, serving up a bitter and bloody cocktail that pays respect to the Irish and Italian heritages of our main characters. Small but mighty, the JoJo Rabbit martini is comprised of Monkey 47 Gin, Bols Genever, German Riesling and grapefruit bitters. Playful grapefruit “rabbit ears” offset this serious cocktail with the help of a sugar butterfly. Draw or pin your own butterfly for the bar’s garden wall and help donate proceeds from this cocktail to a charity.

The “Parasite” cocktail pays homage to the South Korean culture by combining Soju and Matcha. These two delicacies combine with a dangerous peach liqueur that creates a mouthwatering green tea base topped with Dorda coconut infused coconut cream. The “Joker” cocktail uses JaJa Reposado Tequila with blueberries, orgeat and a touch of darkness with Angostura amaro. Some of these ingredients are all considered “brain food” and create a cocktail that is just about the shade of his signature suit. Topped with a No2 charged mint foam, this cocktail is anything but funny. Additionally, it’s topped with a green “whipped topping” to signify the Joker’s iconic green hair and served with his signature card which says “Forgive my laughter. I have a condition (more on back)…It’s a medical condition causing sudden, frequent, uncontrollable laughter that doesn’t match how you feel. It can happen in people with a brain injury or certain neurological conditions.”

Once the best picture is announced, the corresponding cocktail will remain on the regular menu for the duration of the year. The bar will also host an Oscar viewing party on Sunday with a red carpet and photo opp.
