Shakerato at DiAnoia’s Eatery in Pittsburgh

If you find yourself in Pittsburgh – or happen to live there – a trip to DiAnoia’s Eatery is in order. That’s because this Steel City spot is shaking up a delicious drink called the Shakerato, served with your choice of Limoncello, Sambuca or Amaretto mixed with simple syrup and a double shot of espresso. It’s like a Choose Your Own Adventure – the boozy version.

“The idea of this drink came to us when we were In Italy at an amazing restaurant and they offered us different liquors with our espressos,” explains DiAnoia’s Eatery owner Aimee DiAndre. “This is why we offer options with our Shakerato including limoncello, sambuca or amaretto. It’s the perfect “pick-me-up” summer drink.”

Shakerato recipe

  • Double shot of espresso
  • Your choice of one of the following:
    • Limoncello: 1.25 oz. of Limoncello and .25 oz. of simple syrup
    • Sambuca: .5 oz. of Sambuca and .75 oz. of simple syrup
    • Amaretto: .5 oz. of Amaretto and .5 oz. of simple syrup

Combine simple syrup, espresso and your choice of either Limoncello, Sambuca or Amaretto in a shaker tin and fill full of ice. Heavy shake to create a fully aerated, almost fluffy beverage. Single strain into cordial glass.
