Nothing beats a relaxing spa day, except maybe the Spa Day cocktail from Skylight Gardens in Westwood. The exotic concoction, created by Josh Suchan of Ice and Alchemy is made with Moroccan mint tea vodka, honey-galanga cordial, lemon and cypress-bergamot fog.
“I spent a year teaching English in South Korea where tea was a daily part of life,” says Suchan, who is also the Beverage Director at Skylight Gardens. “I wanted to create something that reflect the flavors and aroma of that relaxing experience.”
Mission accomplished.
Spa Day Recipe and Preparation
- 2 oz Moroccan mint tea-infused vodka
- .75 oz honey-galangal cordial
- .75 oz lemon juice
Combine the ingredients into a shaker and shake for 10-12 seconds. Double-strain into the stemless portion of the specialty glass. Garnish with an edible flowers. Place 3-4 pellets of dry ice into the bowl with the rosemary and essential oil to create the aromatized fog. Finally, place the stemless glass containing the cocktail on top of the bowl.
Prepare the lower bowl of the specialty glass with 2 drops Cypress essential oil, 2 drops bergamot essential oil, and 3 oz cold water. Wrap a long sprig of rosemary around the inside of the bowl. Set the prepped bowl aside. Note on safety: the glass bowl containing the essential oil, dry ice and rosemary is to generate the aroma only, not for consumption.
