Ball & Chain is quite an institution in Miami’s Little Havana: this historic landmark was a thriving live jazz hotspot from 1935 through the 1950’s. Re-opening four years ago as a retro Cuban speakeasy, Ball & Chain is once again a favorite nightclub destination on the famed Calle Ocho.
In honor of the newest addition to the Ball & Chain family – baby Gabriella – Chevy Farrell (Bar Operations Manager), and Franklin Maury (Bartender), combined their bartending skills to create a bright, refreshing summer cocktail, – the Dama [Spanish for lady] Gabriella.
“Utilizing muddled strawberries and basil, we’ve created a fresh, approachable Gin cocktail that will please any palate,” shared Farrell.

Dama Gabriella Cocktail Recipe and Preparation
- 1.5 oz. Plymouth gin
- .75 oz. lemon juice
- .75 oz. simple syrup
- Soda water
- 2 fresh strawberries
- Fresh basil
Muddle strawberries and two basil leaves in the serving glass. Combine remaining ingredients in cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake. Pour over fresh ice in serving glass with muddled strawberry/basil; (if preferred, strain muddled strawberry/basil prior to pour). Top off with soda water, then, garnish with slapped basil leaf and very ripe strawberry.
