Matte black drinks have become all of the rage lately with activated charcoal cocktails, and Round K Cafe recently launched the Matte Black Latte. This latte gets its black color from a mix of organic coconut ash and 98% Dutch processed cacao powder. We met with Ockhyeon Byeon aka Ock, the creator and operator of Round K Cafe, to talk about his inspiration for this drink.
“I was inspired to create the Matte Black Latte when a customer recently ordered his coffee “black.” Since coffee isn’t actually black, I wanted to make something truly pitch black and visually stunning and, of course, delicious. With the ingredients I use, this drink is not only beautiful to look at but healthy to drink! “

The Matte Black Latte drink recipe
- 2 tablespoons of 98% Dutch processed CACAO Powder
- 1 tablespoon of Organic Coconut Ash
- 8 oz. of Almond milk
- 2 oz. of Espresso
The ingredients are added to a shaker, shaken, and then poured over ice. Then topped with a matte black whipped cream.
