Last Monday night, we had the pleasure of judging the Yorkville Cup cocktail competition at Penrose, and we were super impressed with the Sand Castle Spritz, created by the crew at Seamstress on 75th and 1st Avenue on the UES specifically for the event. So impressed that the drink came in first in the contest, in fact.
The Yorkville Cup is a cocktail competition that is held bi-annually at the Penrose. All of the contestants must be from the Upper East Side and the winner gets bragging rights and a donation is made to a charity of the winner’s choice.

The theme of this past Yorkville Cup was Indoor Beach Party so all of the cocktails needed to be beach themed and they all must include Ommegang Pale Sour beer. The competition was tough but in the end, the Sand Castle Spritz was voted as the winner by the judges.
This cocktail, for the contest, was served with seaweed/kelp in a sandbox that included miniature plastic toys.
Sand Castle Spritz recipe

- .75 oz. Aperol
